Corporate & Manufacturing Architecture

A workplace that makes room for people and change.

A corporate headquarters or manufacturing facility must bring together the practical demands of work and the culture of the organization. Production requirements, collaboration, equipment, and everyday comfort are connected design questions. A building can make those connections easier to sustain as the business evolves.

At Bal Seal Engineering, the challenge was to accommodate a growing manufacturing company while restoring the camaraderie of its beginnings. CSNA translated that purpose into three clear objectives: flexibility, transparency, and equality.

01

Plan for changing production

We designed the 900-foot-long product research and assembly bay as a clear span, allowing walls to follow production needs. Overhead gantries move horizontally across the assembly floor. Power and gases can drop to the workstations where fabrication processes and machinery require them. The arrangement allows production space and its services to adapt as needs change.

02

Make a shared enterprise visible

The company’s earlier move into separate management and production spaces had weakened everyday connections. Glass walls made the work of managers, lathe operators, and assemblers visible to one another. Transparency became a practical means of bringing people back into a shared enterprise, rather than simply an architectural effect.

03

Express values through daily experience

Equality informed decisions at every scale. We specified the same chair for everyone, from executives to product assemblers, and provided natural light, mountain views, and freshly circulating air. These choices connected the company’s values to the experience of coming to work. The building’s identity grew from how the company wanted its people to work together.
