The Cheryl Schlessmen Bennet Children’s Center is a pre-school completed for and operated by Colorado College. The architecture is modelled after houses that are common in the Old North End historic district of Colorado Springs. The distinctive features include gabled roof dormers over each classroom that bring in an abundance of natural light. The windows have 3×3 window grille pattern that is characteristic of the historic neighborhood.
Other features include handmade Van Briggle ceramic tile inlays at each entry door and wood flooring that connect to the local history of Colorado Springs. Colorado College chose to provide additional solar panels on the roof to maintain their commitment to sustainability on their campus.
